On the 6th of January 1991, Maria Requena's (26) body was discovered by two young anglers at Pennington Flash Country Park in Leigh, near Warrington. Maria's body had been hacked to pieces with power tools and stuffed inside five bin bags. Her clothing was not discovered and her official cause of death has not been released.
Maria had last been seen in Manchester, near the city centre, and it's possible her killer had been a 'client', as Maria was known to be a sex worker.
The discovery of Maria's body was made just over two years after Liverpool sex worker Linda Donaldson's body was found less than three miles away on a farmer's field off Winwick Lane in Lowton in October 1988. Police have confirmed that they have no forensic link between the two cases, however, they do have forensic material in both cases which they will continue to investigate.
